Nalanda University will be an International Institution

Hua Hin (Thailand), Oct. 24 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, presently on a three-day visit for the 15th ASEAN Summit, has put forward the issue of setting up Nalanda University as an international institution.


Addressing in the 7th India-Asean Summit on Saturday morning in Hua Hin town of Thailand, the PM said “We look forward to working closely with the ASEAN and other countries of the East Asia Summit process to establish the Nalanda University as an international institution of excellence in the education with a continual focus.”



Prime Minister opined that by setting up of Nalanda University in India it will not only help India in terms of increasing Buddha Tourism in the country but would also give an opportunity for many Asian people to explore many hidden facts of Buddhism’s roots in India.


Dr. Singh here said that he believes in the theme of ASEAN Summit “Enhancing Connectivity, Empowering Peoples”.


During his speech at 7th India-Asean Summit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that he “would be happy to increase the number of English Learning Centres in ASEAN countries as during past also India has been involved in projects for skills upgradation such as Entrepreneurship Development Centres and Centre for English Language Learning in Combodia, Myanmar, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Vietnam.” (ANI)

Super-30 founder in Limca Book of Records

Anand Kumar, founder and director of Super-30 in Bihar, finds place in Limca Book of Records 2009 for his contribution in helping the poor students crack IIT-JEE by providing them free coaching.


The institute selects talented students from poor families in Bihar and provides them with free coaching, food and accommodation so that they can focus on passing the IIT-JEE exam.


The Limca book says that Kumar, a meritorious student, was selected to study at Cambridge University in 1994, but because of the poor financial status of his family, he could not join the university. So Kumar set up the Ramanujan Society of Mathematics to help bright students to secure admission at IIT, an opportunity in which he never got himself.


The Super-30 coaching is subsidized by the money generated by running evening classes for Intermediate students who are interested in various engineering tests.


Several documentaries have been made on Super-30 in which one of them received an award at a film festival in the US.


“Hard work, proper guidance and supervision are the secrets of our success,” Anand Kumar, director of Super 30, said.


This year, the Super 30 coaching institute witnessed complete success for the second consecutive year with all 30 of its students clearing the highly competitive IIT-JEE. In 2003, the first year of the institute, 18 students made it to the prestigious IITs. The number rose to 22 in 2004 and 26 in 2005. In 2007 and 2006, 28 students made it through IIT-JEE.
